University of Missouri’s T.E. “Jake” Fisher Delta Research, Extension and Education Center (REEC) invites the public to its first Ag Research Expo on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The event is a new approach to the REEC’s traditional Field Day, and will focus on producers while providing separate events for other stakeholders.
Farmers and other individuals will have the opportunity for an in-person look at the latest research conducted at the REEC as well as an opportunity to talk to and see demonstrations from several industry partners.
“The Ag Research Expo provides a great way for Missouri’s agricultural producers to talk directly with some of the top researchers in the country,” said FD-REEC Director Aaron Brandt. “We love the opportunity to share our work and know that it will help Missouri farmers improve their own practices, and this year we are excited to add industry partners to further help producers in determining the best practices for their farms.”
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, and will feature self-guided tours of research fields and an agricultural drone demonstration. Free grab-n-go lunches will also be provided to participants. The Expo is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
FD-REEC faculty will give presentations on several topics, including tarnished plant bug in cotton, peanuts in Missouri, soybean planting dates, rice in Missouri and soybean updates. University of Missouri Extension faculty will also present on marketing, drought, financial management and late soybean diseases.
Participating industry partners include BASF, Bayer, Corteva, Progeny, Syngenta, Adama, Southernstates Drone, Case and John Deere. Additional partners and stakeholders will also have booths inside Rone Hall.
Events will take place at Rone Hall, 102 County Road 308, Portageville, MO.
The Fisher Delta Research, Extension and Education Center was established in 1959 in Portageville, Mo., to provide research and educational programs unique to the Southeast Delta Region of the state and to function as a center for university programs, educational meetings, workshops, short courses, 4-H training and field days.
FD-REEC facilities include 1,119 acres of land at five locations representing the major soil types of the region. Research studies are designed to improve production of crops of major importance to the region; namely soybeans, cotton, rice, grain sorghum, wheat, peanuts and possible new crops that could economically benefit the area.
In 2011, the Center was renamed in honor of T.E. “Jake” Fisher, who served as superintendent and had been employed with the University of Missouri for more than 50 years.
